Whether you have just copied over an older course section to current one, as we discussed in our last blog, or you have recently built a course from scratch, chances are you have some tweaking to do with due dates and availability before the Fall. In this post, we will show you the most efficient way of setting up all the date and time criteria in your course using the Data Management tool. Date Management allows you to adjust availability and due date permissions for any Blackboard items currently using them - not only assignments and tests. For example, you can also adjust settings for Announcements, Discussion Boards, Journals, and even folders or modules that have availability parameters.
Date management is housed alongside the same course tools you use most often. You will find it about halfway down the list of course tools under the content management pane.
Upon selected the tool, you will be presented with three options for adjusting your dates.
Use Course Start Date: Allows you to provide Blackboard with an updated start date for the course. Blackboard will adjust availability and due dates based on how many days from the start date content was in the original course.
For example: The original course started September 1 and there was an assignment due September 26, twenty-five days after the started date. If you adjust the new start date to January 12, the assignment is now due February 6, twenty-five days after the new start date.
Adjust By Number of Days: This option functions similar to the one above. If you already know which number of days you would like to adjust by, you can enter them into the text box. Both positive and negative numbers are accepted.
List all Dates for Review: Selecting this option will provide you with a comprehensive list of all aspects of the course dates apply, which you can then edit one-by-one.
Upon selecting an option, the Date Management process will run.
Adjusting by start date or number of days can be a good first step toward aligning imported assignments with the new semester. However, holidays and semester length will vary from section to section. Chances are you will want to manually review each date to ensure they align with your course calendar. Upon initiating any of the above options, you will be taken to the Date Management Review page. Here, you can edit parameters individually for each item.
You can adjust parameters by clicking on each date individually, or adjust all three at once by clicking on the pencil at the end of the row.
Once finished, click the green checkbox to update your changes.
